An inversion layer has formed in the zone of influence of a strong anticyclone operating in the republic

In the winter months, in the intermountain hollows of Armenia, especially in the Shirak and Ararat valleys, temperature inversions are observed (when the temperature increases according to the altitude), which is accompanied by low-level cloudiness and fogs.

This was reported by the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.

In the last 2 days, in the zone of influence of a strong anticyclone operating in the republic, an inversion layer appeared at 1500-2000m above sea level (elevated inversion), which includes Shirak and Aragatsotn marzes, the Ararat Valley with its foothills and the foothills of Vayots Dzor.

In the presence of an inversion layer in the republic, the inflow of warm air currents from the southwest continues at the same time, as a result of which the contact of cold and warm air currents has resulted in the condensation of water vapors, which is expressed in the form of dense fog at 1600-2000 m altitude, and in the form of cloud cover at lower altitudes.

Due to this phenomenon, a significant temperature difference has also arisen between different settlements of the republic.

Thus, as of 14:00 on January 10, the air temperature in Kapan and Dilijan was +14...+15°C, and -11°C in Ashotsk.
