Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, the leader of the FIDE ranking table, will participate in the World Blitz Chess Championship in New York.
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) disqualified Carlsen during the World Rapid Chess Championship for not following the established dress code.
"Yesterday we had a lot of discussions. I have a good relationship with the FIDE president. After talking with him, I felt that we could have effective discussions, and at the end of the day I decided to take part in the blitz chess competition," said Carlsen.
The president of the International Chess Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich, made concessions and made changes to the dress code rules of the World Championship. Now chess players can come to the competition in jeans.
"After consultation with our colleagues, it was decided to test an approach that would give FIDE officials more flexibility in making decisions about dress code. The principle is clear: a formal dress code is still required, but subtle deviations are allowed, in particular chess players can put on jeans," Dvorkovich's words were quoted by the FIDE press service.
