"Publication". A new project related to video surveillance

"Hraparak" newspaper writes:

"KP deputy Hayk Sargsyan brought another project, which is also problematic, instead of the noisy project of installing cameras in public places. Back on November 11, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that it was freezing its project of installing cameras in public places and 24-hour video surveillance.

Before that, in the conditions of harsh criticism, in June, the project was approved by the CP in the first reading of the National Assembly. By law, private companies were required to install cameras near buildings, provide police with live footage, and store the footage for at least 15 days.

A few days ago, Hayk Sargsyan put into circulation a similar project, by which they give this authority not directly to the police, but to local governments, to communities, obliging the head of the community to provide 24/7 access to the entrances and exits of the community to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. , the buildings of municipal subordinate organizations from the outside, as well as all other video surveillance systems under the management and (or) control of the given local government.

The justification of the project is the same: "the results of a number of criminological studies document that the presence of recording devices in places visible to people has a significant preventive effect on the tendencies of criminality and other anti-social behavior."
