New tool will allow to transfer photos and videos from Google Photos directly to iCloud Photos

As part of the Digital Transformation Initiative (DTI), Google Photos users will be able to directly transfer photos and videos to Apple iCloud Photos and vice versa. The services support the transfer of the following image file formats: .jpg, .png, .gif, .webp, .avif, and most RAW files. The transfer feature supports the following video formats: .mp4, .mov, .m4v, .mpg, .mkv, .mod, .mmv, .avi, .divx, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .3gp, .3g2, .m2t, .m2ts, and .mts.The transfer option only supports personal Google accounts. School and organization accounts, accounts with advanced protection enabled, and accounts of users who have not reached the appropriate age in their country cannot use this feature.Files will not be deleted from Google Photos after transferring to iCloud Photos. The entire transfer process may take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the size of the data being transferred. To transfer files, go to Google archive, follow the instructions to start the export from Google Photos, select Apple - iCloud Photos, and log in using your Apple ID. Then, you need to authorize the transfer.DTI Executive Director Chris Riley wrote that the new tool operates on the DTI open-source technology stack, complementing existing solutions for direct file transfer.
