46 convicts in prisons have HIV infection. "Publication"

According to the government's decision, the management of the "Penitical Medicine Center" SNOC, which provides medical assistance and maintenance services to detainees and convicts kept in penal institutions, was removed from the Ministry of Justice last year and given to the RA Ministry of Health.

The organization of healthcare for prisoners is now carried out through 9 medical units and the central penitentiary hospital. hraparak.am writes about this.

As Deputy Minister of Health Levon Hakobyan told "Hraparak", in 2024 there were 2 thousand 600 imprisoned persons who used the medical service, approximately 5 thousand 300 people were provided current medical care.

Medical care was organized for 221 convicts infected with Hepatitis C and 46 convicts with HIV infection. According to the deputy minister, medical care is currently being provided to 28 HIV infected persons.

Also, in 2024, 29 incarcerated persons with Hepatitis B infection were counted, 10 of whom needed infection management and treatment.

As for where the convicts with the infection are kept, in separate isolation cells or in general, the deputy minister found it difficult to answer, noting that it is not within the domain of the Ministry of Health. We tried to get an answer to the question from the Ministry of Justice, but press spokesperson Nona Navikyan did not answer our phone calls.
