French President Emmanuel Macron will raise the issue of deploying a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine on the agenda of the summit of European Union leaders to be held on December 18-19, "Strana.ua" news agency reports, referring to its sources.
According to sources, this discussion stems from a number of important circumstances. Among them are Macron's visit to Poland, intensified discussions in the media about the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, as well as the return of Donald Trump to the post of president in the United States.
According to EU diplomats, it is important to develop a comprehensive approach in advance in case of a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
Despite raising the issue, there is still no unified position within the EU. EU officials noted that the issue of a peacekeeping mission is still in the "raw" stage and is just an idea for now. Earlier, the leaders of Poland and Croatia expressed their opposition to sending their troops to Ukraine. The German government described this issue as "not relevant".
