US and Saudi Arabia to discuss ceasefire in Gaza in case of ceasefire in Lebanon

Brett McGurk, the White House National Security Council's Middle East and North Africa coordinator, will discuss with Saudi officials how a possible ceasefire with Israel in Lebanon could help ease fighting in the Gaza Strip.

This was stated by Andrew Bates, deputy press secretary of the White House.

"Brett McGurk, who regularly travels to the Middle East, will be in Saudi Arabia on November 26, where he will discuss using a possible cease-fire agreement in Lebanon as a catalyst for a possible cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and strengthening stability in the region," Bates told reporters at a briefing.

When asked what will happen if the Israeli authorities do not confirm the ceasefire in Lebanon, Bates answered: "I will not elaborate on our diplomatic consultations and I will not speculate on it.

But we continue to seek a diplomatic settlement along the Blue Line (the blue line is the border between Lebanon and Israel, based on the color of the helmets of UN peacekeepers stationed along it).
