Voting for the presidential elections has ended in Uruguay

Voting for the second round of presidential elections ended on Sunday in Uruguay. As reportedChannel 5:, 30 minutes before the closing of polling stations, the turnout was around 82%.

No serious incidents were registered on the election day. The first results of vote counting are expected in the coming hours. Uruguayans were forced to choose between Yamanda Orsi, the former mayor of Canelones, who is running for the center-left Broad Front coalition, and Alvaro Delgado, the candidate of the ruling center-right National Party.

Both Orsi and his political opponent consider the fight against crime, the level of which has increased in recent years in Uruguay, and the transit of drugs through the territory of the country as their priorities.

Orsi also promises to create new jobs and raise wages for low-income workers.

In foreign policy, he emphasizes the need to accelerate integration processes within regional organizations, including the South American Common Market (Mercosur) as a priority.
