Military exercises with the participation of US Air Force bombers and Italian fighter jets took place at the Lithuanian training center, the press service of the Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania reported.
"On November 15, ground targets in Kazlu-Ruda were destroyed by airstrikes from an altitude of about 6 kilometers. The American B-52 Stratfortress long-range strategic bombers dropped laser-guided bombs, the Italian EF2000 "Eurofighter" fighters hit directly with missiles," the message reads.
The surveillance was carried out from the land by the servicemen of the special operations forces and ground troops of the Lithuanian army, specialists of the joint fire support department, the ministry added.
"This pre-coordinated air operation over Lithuania is part of the Vanguard Merlin exercise organized by the US Rotational Force in Europe under a tactical exercise scenario developed with the 603rd Air Operations Center team," it said. From US Air Force and bomber crews, they learned to destroy targets on the ground and protect friendly forces during a large-scale conflict."
