The Chairman of the People's Republic of China and the President of Peru took part in the opening ceremony of the Chancay megaport, located north of Lima.
The inauguration ceremony for the new deep-sea port of Chancay, which attracted Chinese investment, took place in Peru on Friday, November 15. The event was attended via video link by the country's President Dina Boluarte and Chinese President Xi Jinping. “The opening of the Port of Chancay represents a historic moment for Peru and all Peruvians,” Boluarte said at the ceremony, adding that the megaproject marks the beginning of a transformation that will transform Peru into a “world-class logistics, technology and industrial center.” Xi Jinping, in turn, noted that the opening of the port is a “successful example” of cooperation between China and Peru under the auspices of the “One Belt, One Road” project. According to him, as a result, it will be possible to create a maritime corridor between China and Latin America, “connecting the great Inca Trail and the “Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century” and paving the way for the prosperity of Peru” and other countries in the region.
