Judging by everything, Nikol Pashinyan's preferred tool is not the carpentry hammer that he waved at the heads of the public, but the farming rake, on which he regularly stands.
In this case, we say the rake in a metaphorical sense, but the blow of the stick, in this case, the political blow, is no less painful.
About a year ago, Pashinyan, having launched a real attack against the Armenian Apostolic Church, subjecting dozens of worthy clergymen of the national Church to mass repressions, and insulting the religious feelings of millions of Armenians, nevertheless lost that battle.
Moreover, as a result of some conspiracies and pressures, several bishops of Tiradav, who went to his side, were exposed to public shame and disgraced. And now, having failed in the fight against the Church, Pashinyan has decided to stand on that "rake" again.
In particular, in the pre-election program of his CP, he planned some bad reforms regarding the Armenian Apostolic Church. Naturally, the Mother See's indignant reaction was not long in coming. St. Etchmiadzin strongly condemned that manifestation, noting that the provisions regarding the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church in the pre-election program of the "Civil Agreement" party are unacceptable, they are a clear violation of the Church's right to self-governance, as well as international fundamental principles of freedom of conscience and religion.
"The adopted illegal way of working is harmful to the nation and absolutely unacceptable. It contradicts the interests of our people around the world, endangers the foundations of the national value system and undermines spiritual security," said the Mother See.
There is another nuance to all of this. One of the main theses of Pashinyan and his narrow circle hating the Armenian Apostolic Church was that the clergy interfere in political processes (although this is not forbidden to the clergy in general).
But now it turns out that Pashinyan himself is directly bringing the clergy and the Armenian Apostolic Church into the political field by including the objectionable provisions regarding the Church in their program. In general, Pashinyan's move to bring the declared war on the Church into the CP program is more than just standing on the rake.
It means giving the entire spiritual class, all believing Armenians an extra time against themselves and the group led by that person. 1.5 months before the election.
