"Zhoghovurd" daily writes:
"On May 7, the 8th summit of the European Political Community (ECC) will be held in the capital of Armenia, to which a number of heads of European states and representatives of parliaments will be invited to discuss the most practical issues of security, migration, infrastructure and political cooperation. The European Union is also taking urgent steps to deepen cooperation with Yerevan, also planning the first EU-Armenia summit. At the same time, the EU and Armenia are taking leading steps towards visa liberalization: the bilateral Visa Liberalization Action Plan is already being discussed at the governmental level. An EU assessment of the implementation of this program is expected to be published in the spring, which could be an important legitimate step towards visa-free travel.
The "Zhoghovurd" daily newspaper found out from the conversations within the government CP that the government will receive a signed document during the May conference. The holding of the summit of the European political community in Yerevan, as well as the possible initialization of visa liberalization, can be presented as significant foreign policy achievements for the government. "Zhoghovurd" daily turned to the government, asking for a comment, but our questions remained unanswered. However, geopolitical support cannot be of great value in the conditions when the prosecution of opponents, arrests for criticism, clerical political prisoners and political pressures continue inside the country.
The support received on the Western platforms, no matter how important it is, cannot replace the strengthening of democratic institutions and the real establishment of the legal state. Otherwise, a paradox is obtained. in the outside world, the government tries to present itself as the bearer of European values, while in the domestic political life, it is classic dictatorial manners."
