The charge d'affaires of Germany in Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Iran in connection with the decision of the German authorities to close the consulates of the Islamic Republic.
Mehr agency reports about this. The Foreign Ministry of Iran has expressed a protest to the charge d'affaires of Germany against the "unjustified decision" of Berlin, due to which Iranians were deprived of the opportunity to receive consular services. "creates unnecessary trouble" for Iranians and violates their rights.
Earlier, the German media reported that the German government has decided to close all Iranian consulates in the country. The Iranian embassy in Berlin will continue its work. This step of the German authorities, according to the DPA agency, is a response to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd in Iran, who had the citizenship of Iran and Germany. On October 29, the German Foreign Ministry summoned the charge d'affaires of Iranian affairs, as well as the German ambassador in Tehran, for consultations.
On October 30, the German diplomat left Tehran. Such measures, according to Berlin, were taken as a protest against Sharmahd's death sentence. In 2023, Iran's Supreme Court sentenced Sharmahd to death on charges of terrorism. German authorities and EU representatives condemned the verdict.
