Death toll from gas explosion in Cherkessk house rises to four

The death toll in a gas explosion in a residential building in Cherkessk has reached four, emergency services told RIA Novosti. “The number of dead has increased to four, two more people were pulled out from under the rubble,” the agency’s interlocutor said. Previously, two dead and 11 injured were reported . Three people were rescued from the rubble alive. Rescuers continue to work at the scene. An explosion in a house on Lobodina Street in Cherkessk occurred early in the morning. As reported by the Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Karachay-Cherkessia, apartments on the fourth and fifth floors were destroyed. 52 people were evacuated from the house. The preliminary cause of the explosion was identified by emergency services as a malfunction of gas equipment. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case regarding the provision of services that did not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers. A municipal emergency regime has been introduced in Cherkessk.
