The US Senate rejected the border security bill

The US Senate on Thursday failed to approve a bill that provides tougher measures to protect the country's southern border, media reported. The bill was voted against by 50 senators, 43 in favor, while 60 votes were needed for its approval. Fox News reports that independent Sen. Kirsten Sinema, who helped draft the bill, blamed both parties for defeating the bill. He criticized Republicans for turning their backs on the bill and Democrats for bringing it up again without securing support: "Today, the Senate proves what many Americans already think about Congress. Senators are here for political games, not for results," Sinema said in a statement. The bill was first debated in February and was rejected by a vote of 50 to 49.
