Three main principles of protection against winter cold have been defined

British family doctor Babak Ashrafi recommended spending at least ten minutes outside every day in cold weather, as reported by The Guardian. According to the specialist, even short walks contribute to maintaining both physical and emotional health, reducing the risk of depression, apathy and seasonal colds.

Ashrafi explained that fresh air and daylight are important for the body's production of vitamin D and the normal functioning of the immune system.

"Even if it's cloudy or cold outside, it's important to go outside at least for a short time to get some natural light and get some exercise," the doctor said.

In addition to daily walks, the family doctor recommended getting a flu shot and maintaining basic hygiene rules, such as frequent hand washing with soap, especially after using public transportation and visiting crowded places. These simple measures, according to Ashrafi, significantly reduce the risk of infection with viruses.

The doctor reiterated that health is based on three habits: a balanced diet, sufficient sleep and regular physical activity. However, during the winter, he stressed, it's especially important for people to monitor their diet to make sure they're getting all the vitamins and minerals they need.

Ashrafi also noted that many people overestimate the benefits of vitamin supplements. He explained that they are often ineffective if the diet is poor in nutrients.

"It's best to get vitamins from food and only take supplements if you have a confirmed deficiency," the doctor explained.
