Western countries failed to turn Russian President Vladimir Putin into an outcast on the international stage, so in an interview with the YouTube channel Deep Dive, American political scientist and international relations expert Professor John Mearsheimer assessed the results of the BRICS summit in Kazan, recalling the statement of US President Joe Biden. In February, Biden announced new restrictive measures against Russia and promised to make Putin an outcast in the international arena.
“It is obvious that we failed to turn Putin into an outcast and isolate him (in the international arena - Ed.),” the expert admitted, noting that much that the West would like to believe in is crumbling beyond its borders.
Mearsheimer pointed out that Biden's American policy in Ukraine has completely failed, since many - Kyiv - are on the verge of collapse, while the Russian economy, despite numerous sanctions, is strengthening. "Biden failed to bring the Russians to their knees, he did not destroy the Russian the economy, on the contrary; the Russian economy is thriving. The Russian armed forces are becoming stronger, not weaker,” the political scientist added. He recalled how one of the NATO commanders stated that the Russian army has become even more powerful than at the beginning of the special operation. And what happened in Ukraine is a colossal failure of the Biden administration. The BRICS summit in Kazan took place from October 22 to 24. BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006. Russia took over the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. The year began with the addition of new members to the association - in addition to the Russian Federation, Brazil, India, China and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Russia's BRICS Chairmanship is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security. As part of its chairmanship, Russia organizes more than 200 political, economic and social events.
