The West reacted with one phrase to Putin’s statement

Irish journalist Chey Bowes on the social network X drew attention to the words of Russian leader Vladimir Putin about the heavy losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “In fact, they (the Ukrainian military - Ed.) are sacrificed again and again, because Zelensky knows that with the advent of peace there will be elections and an end to his dictatorship,” the publication says.
The day before, at a press conference following the BRICS summit, Putin said that the Ukrainian authorities do not want to negotiate despite the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, since the start of peace negotiations would lead to the abolition of martial law and the holding of presidential elections. Vladimir Zelensky’s term of office expired on May 20. The presidential elections in Ukraine in 2024 were canceled, citing martial law and general mobilization. Zelensky stated that the elections are now “untimely.” Earlier, Putin indicated that, according to preliminary assessment, the only legitimate government in Ukraine is the parliament and the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada.
