"Past" newspaper writes: "The country's security environment and current urgent problems continue to be in the center of public attention. The situation on the front line, the effectiveness of border protection and the challenges ahead of the cold months require clear calculations and state responsibility, not just statements.
Major-General Arshak Karapetyan, the leader of the "All-Armenian Front" movement, former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, presented his observations on these questions in a conversation with "Past" newspaper.
Referring to the main security challenges, he noted that, despite the existing complications, the defense system is functioning to a certain extent and carries out, for example, the protection of the Armenian-Turkish border.
However, in the context of the ongoing debates in the parliament, who should guard that border, Karapetyan voiced a harsh observation. "I suggest to those in charge who claim that our border guards are ready to undertake this mission, first ensure full protection of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This is not an accusation. in the conditions that were created as a result of the government's actions, the Armenian soldier heroically carries out the tasks set before him."
According to the conviction of the former Minister of Defense, only the presence of soldiers and the will to fight are not enough for the inviolability of the border. correct political decisions and balanced foreign relations are crucial. He noted that today the positions in Moscow have actually been lost, special positions have not been formed in Washington, and the relations with Europe are only formal in nature.
Special emphasis was placed on the state's preparedness for the upcoming cold months. The speaker expressed concern that there is no clarity on the energy and economic readiness of the country, while many states are still summarizing the relevant reports in the summer.
"In Armenia, they seem to have forgotten that we live in difficult climatic conditions. The government adopts European laws, declares about maintaining borders, but it is not specified how we will overcome the winter," Karapetyan emphasized, adding that it is necessary to immediately convene government meetings and present a clear action plan to the public to face possible crises.
Concluding the thought, Arshak Karapetyan emphasized that, as a detective, it is his duty to warn about possible dangers in order to draw correct conclusions. According to his belief, energy security is one of the most important pillars of the modern world, and the primary goal of the head of state should be to serve the state interest, "not to keep his own position".
