Is Yerevan going to publicly demand the return of prisoners from Baku?

Official Yerevan evaluates the situation every moment and chooses the way that will be most effective. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this today during a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly, answering the question of Lilit Galstyan, deputy of the Hayastan faction, whether Yerevan is going to publicly demand the return of Armenian prisoners from Baku ahead of COP 29.

Prime Minister Pashinyan first mentioned that he thinks COP 29 is a good opportunity to focus attention on all the urgent problems in our region, the peace process, and the stability and development of the region.

"In December last year, 32 captured persons returned to Armenia, not because we made official and public statements, but because we were looking for and finding opportunities to return them at the working level. At every moment, we evaluate which logic of actions will be more effective in that situation," said the Prime Minister.

According to him, official Yerevan raises the issue of captured persons in all work meetings and discussions. However, one should be more careful when it comes to public and official statements. According to the Prime Minister, it is possible that after the official announcement, the return process will become easier, the process will become more difficult, or all prospects for their return will be closed.

Pashinyan added that the moment the government assesses that an official statement from the Armenian side is lacking, it will be done.
