The unexpected danger of carbonated beverages was revealed for the immune system

Regular use of carbonated drinks with refined sugar can make changes to the DNA of intestinal bacteria and disrupt the immune system. This conclusion was scientists from the Israeli Institute of Technology. The results of the study were published in Nature Communications (Natcom).

The focus was on one of the main representatives of the microbomom, bacteroides Thetaiotaomicron bacteria. It plays an important role in protecting intestines from inflammation and pathogens. It turned out that under the influence of the sugar contained in the carbonated drink, these tramples are subjected to the rebuilding of the so-called inserts, DNA fragments, which change its activity.

Additional tests on mice have shown that these changes affect several important processes at the same time. These include the level of inflammatory markers, the production of T-cells, the production of cytokins (immune system alarm protein molecules), even intestinal walls.

Studies on mobile lines, rodents and volunteers have also confirmed that the Microbiota responds to the sugar in the diet. However, as the authors emphasize, these effects are reversible. After refusing to sugar carbonated drinks, the DNA of bacteria returns to its original state, and the immune system indicators are normal.

Scientists emphasize: The food has a direct impact on the interaction of the microbome and immunity. According to them, the new data can be a basis for individualized dietary proposals, which are aimed at reducing the risk of inflammatory diseases and maintaining common health.
