US President Joe Biden's statements about nuclear weapons negotiations with Russia are linked to the November election of the country's new leader. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this on October 19.
As reported by IA Regnum, earlier on October 14, Biden announced the US readiness for negotiations with Russia, China and the DPRK on the topic of reducing nuclear weapons without preconditions. The head of the White House also pointed to the need to reduce nuclear risks against the backdrop of modern challenges. Later that day, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Grigory Karasin, noted that Russia should carefully study Biden’s proposal and “understand what he means.” According to him, Moscow should not miss this statement. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that in the context of a military conflict in Ukraine with the involvement of nuclear powers in the confrontation with Russia, it is impossible to talk about the reduction of nuclear weapons (NW) without linking this issue with others security aspects. At the same time, the Kremlin speaker clarified that the Russian side considers such contacts necessary.
