Malaysia has confirmed its intention to join BRICS

Malaysia has confirmed its intention to join the BRICS countries. This was reported by the Bernama agency, referring to the Kingdom's Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liu Chin Ton.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan has sent an official letter to the foreign ministers of the nine BRICS countries, confirming Malaysia's intention to join, the agency said.

"The presence of a senior Malaysian minister at the BRICS summit in late October is a valuable opportunity to gain the support of BRICS leaders," Liu said, noting that the desire to join the organization is in line with the country's position as an independent state.

In his opinion, it will further strengthen the policy of neutrality and multilateralism of BRICS.

The deputy minister emphasized that BRICS members such as Brazil, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also conduct a neutral foreign policy. He also disagrees with the suggestion that the country's bid to join the group could harm its economic relations with Western countries.
