“This shows ignorance and lack of respect for history. The UN recognized the right of the Jewish people to have a state, but, naturally, it did not create it," Netanyahu said in an interview with Le Figaro newspaper. According to him, Israel gained statehood as a result of the War of Independence.

Netanyahu added that the UN "did not participate in the 1948 war," but people who "survived the Holocaust and the Vichy regime" did. "Therefore, to say that the UN created the state of Israel is a gross distortion of history," Netanyahu concluded.
