Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov presented MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov with the Order of Alexander Nevsky. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his congratulatory telegram to the teaching staff, staff, students, graduate students and graduates of MGIMO on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the university, stated that the MGIMO team was awarded the Order Alexander Nevsky for outstanding achievements in the educational and scientific fields.
“MGIMO remains at the forefront of our diplomacy and foreign policy activities in implementing the Foreign Policy Concept, which was approved by the president,” Lavrov said at a gala evening marking the 80th anniversary of MGIMO.
The minister noted that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs closely cooperates with the MGIMO staff and values them.
On Monday MGIMO celebrates its 80th anniversary. This is one of the country's oldest university centers for training international specialists. Over the years of its operation, the university has trained over 40 thousand students, including more than 5.5 thousand foreign citizens. Among its graduates are famous politicians, diplomats, and journalists.
