The US will send anti-missile defense systems and troops to Israel

The Pentagon will send the THAAD anti-missile defense system and troops to Israel, despite Iran warning the US on Sunday to back off the move. The decision "underscores the unwavering commitment of the United States to protect Israel and the Americans there," Washington said in response.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin authorized the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system at the direction of President Joe Biden.

The system will help bolster Israel's air defenses after Iranian missile attacks in April and October, the statement said.

Iran responded by declaring on X, through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, that Tehran "has no red lines when it comes to protecting its people and interests."
