Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid said his country opposes the use of its territory as a “springboard” for attacks on neighboring countries, including Iran. Rashid made the remarks at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Baghdad on Sunday in response to Israeli rhetoric about a possible response to the Islamic Republic's recent missile attack on the regime. The Iraqi President stressed the need to take immediate measures to stop the Israeli regime's attacks on Lebanon and work to end the war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. He warned against the potential expansion of the war in the region and called for efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading throughout the region, PressTV reported. Rashid said that the continuation of the war in Gaza and Lebanon poses a threat to regional and global security, stability and peace, emphasizing the need to resolve crises in the region through diplomatic means. Elsewhere in his speech, the president said relations between Tehran and Baghdad would play an important role in bringing the two neighboring countries closer together. He called on both sides to work to strengthen ties in various fields based on historical, social and religious commonalities in a manner that serves the common interests of the two friendly peoples and promotes regional security and stability.
