Turkey explained why the country needs to participate in BRICS

Membership in the BRICS association will give Turkey trump cards in its dealings with the West. Political analyst Serhat Latifoglu stated this to RIA Novosti.

“Turkey has had long-standing intentions to join BRICS. I don’t think Ankara will use this as a bargaining chip with the West, but to some extent it can be used in relations with the West,” Latifoglu said.

The analyst recalled the words of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who said that if Brussels had approved Turkey’s membership in the European Union, Ankara would not have thought about looking for alternatives.

Latifoglu also noted that the political influence of BRICS is constantly growing, and it will help protect Turkey from economic pressure from Ankara’s allies in the West.

Prior to this, international political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov stated that Turkey’s intention to join the BRICS association is a political game designed for the West.
