Steel production in Russia is declining


In Russia in September of this year, the output of finished rolled steel decreased by 18.1% compared to the same period last year, to 4.5 million tons. Interfax reports this with reference to data from Chermet Corporation.

It is noted that over the nine months of this year, production fell by 5.3%, to 46.7 million tons. Also, over nine months, 79.1 million tons of iron ore were produced, which is 1.2% lower than the same period last year. Steel output in January-September amounted to 53.6 million tons, or -6.1% compared to the same period in 2023.

Last year, the total volume of steel produced by Donbass enterprises reached 2.33 million tons (+25% by 2022). Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov said that the industry of four new Russian regions is gradually recovering. In 2024 alone, 24 enterprises were launched on their territory, thanks to which over 2.5 thousand people were employed.
