Hurricane Milton death toll rises in Florida

At least ten people died in the tornadoes that accompanied the devastating Hurricane Milton along the US East Coast, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said at a briefing at the White House.

“We have received information that at least ten people have died from Hurricane Milton,” he stressed. Mayorkas clarified that these people were victims of a tornado. He added that the situation remains unstable, and the assessment of the damage has just begun.

US President Joe Biden signed an order on October 7 declaring a state of emergency in Florida due to Hurricane Milton approaching the state. He also ordered federal aid for local governments.
