The strong flood caused devastation in the Kentucky province of Kentucky, which has more than 1,000 rescue brigades in a hurry to help those who have been trapped due to water levels, NBC News reports.
It has been confirmed that at least eight people have been killed and officials warn that the number of victims will most likely increase, as the search and rescue continues.
"This is one of the most serious weather we have seen in at least one decade," Kentucky Governor Andy Beshir stated on Sunday.
There have been reports of deaths from several regions, including Hardz, Struggle, and Clay, where in most cases, cars tried to overcome the flood.
Bashir stressed the importance of remaining far from the roads to prevent further human losses.
Authorities have stated at a Sunday press conference that almost 40,000 residents have left without electricity, and 9,800 are connected to water supply services, and 26,000 people need to boil water.
Bashir said on Sunday that US President Donald Trump approved his request to allocate funds to eliminate the consequences of natural disasters.
