Mexican authorities have found the body of kidnapped journalist Roxana Guzman

Mexican authorities have found the body of journalist Roxana Guzman, who was kidnapped by gunmen in early June in the state of Veracruz, reports AFP, referring to the state prosecutor's office.

According to the investigation, two armed men in uniform resembling state uniforms broke into the journalist's house and kidnapped her. The moment of the attack was captured by a video surveillance camera.

The body of Roxana Guzman was found in one of the houses in the state of Veracruz, where she lived and worked. As part of the case, eight people were arrested and charged with murder, including four municipal police officers.

As stated by the prosecutor's office, the police "provided resources, food and logistical support to the activities of the criminal group" related to the kidnapping of the journalist.

Roxana Guzman was the head of a local digital news magazine. Since the beginning of the year, two more journalists have been killed in the state of Veracruz.

The special rapporteur on freedom of expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights condemned the crime and called on the authorities to continue the investigation.

The international organization "Reporters Without Borders" stated that the killing of Roxana Guzmán "shows once again the inability of the authorities to ensure the protection of members of the press" and demanded an explanation as to why the journalist could not be found alive.

According to the "Reporters Without Borders" organization, Mexico remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world for the work of journalists.
