The US administration expects that the phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will contribute to the establishment of a lasting peace in Ukraine. This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the eve of a meeting of the heads of defense agencies of the alliance in Brussels.
"There is one person in the world who can unite the parties to the conflict to achieve peace, and that is President Donald Trump, who showed this yesterday in a conversation with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, which, we believe, will contribute to the achievement of a lasting peace on the continent and is consistent with his goal of stopping the bloodshed and establishing peace, which is in the interests of the entire continent and the United States," he said.
