Grossi and Lukashenko discussed the "delicate situation" in Ukraine

The situation in Ukraine was one of those discussions at the meeting between the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and the Director General of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi. According to Grossi, he discussed a number of important issues with Lukashenko "in an open and confidential environment" - first of all, "delicate situation in the region, conflict in Ukraine", as well as related challenges and dangers. IAEA Director General informed the President of Belarus about the work to ensure nuclear safety at nuclear power plants of Ukraine, which is led by the International Agency for Atomic Energy.

In his turn, Lukashenko "in a very clear, open manner" explained to him his position on ensuring nuclear safety and peace in the region. Negotiations between Grossi and Lukashenko took place on October 1 at the Palace of Independence in Minsk. In addition, the head of the IAEA and his team plan to assess the situation at the Belarusian nuclear power plant almost four years after its connection to the grid and the progress in implementing the recommendations that were published in the IAEA operational safety review in 2021.

Earlier, Lukashenko responded to the accusations of Ukraine in the plan to seize the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
