Tokyo's relationship with Seoul is extremely important in the "current strategic environment", despite South Korea's domestic political situation. "We will refrain from commenting on the domestic politics of third countries, but the Japanese government is closely monitoring the situation in the Republic of Korea," he said, noting that Tokyo and Seoul are "neighbors that should cooperate as partners in solving various international issues."
"The importance of relations between Japan and South Korea remains unchanged in the current strategic environment," Hayashi added.
On January 26, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Korea filed official charges against President Yun Seok Yeol.
