New requirement for all nonimmigrant visa applicants: US Embassy


Beginning January 20, 2025, the Consular Section will require all nonimmigrant visa applicants to submit the application form with the same DS-160 approval number that was used to make the appointment at the visa interview.

This was reported by the US Embassy.

“You MUST appear at the visa interview with the DS-160 application approval number that you used to pick up on the day of your interview.

If you have completed a new application and have a new DS-160 application number, you MUST change your old number at least 48 hours before arriving at the embassy for your visa interview by following the steps below.

Note: You can only change your DS-160 application number once.

Steps required to change DS-160 application approval number:

Log in to your account: https://ais.usvisa-info.com, on the "Applicant Summary Page" click the "gear" button and select the "Edit" option, fill in the new modified application confirmation number in the DS-160 number field,

Select "Save", appear for your interview on the scheduled date and time.

Please note that the consular section cannot help you update your DS-160 application number.

Starting January 20, 2025, you will be denied entry to the embassy if the DS-160 application confirmation number on your confirmation page does not match the interview reservation number, and you will have to reschedule your interview.
