Nine out of ten Danes oppose the transfer of Greenland to the United States. This is the reaction of the public to the statement of the newly elected US President Donald Trump about his desire to establish control over the island, reports the Ritzau agency, citing the results of a survey conducted by the Voxmeter sociological institute on January 6-7.
89.2% of respondents answered "no", 4.5% responded positively to the idea, and 6.3% found it difficult to answer. 1065 people aged 18 and over participated in the survey.
Trump first expressed his interest in acquiring Greenland, which is of great importance for Arctic security, back in 2019. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the idea "absurd" at the time, leading to the cancellation of Trump's planned state visit to Denmark.
This time, Frederiksen put it more diplomatically, declaring that "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders." "My original point of view and the government's point of view is very clear. The future of Greenland is decided in Greenland," said the head of the government in an interview with TV2.
