Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has pinned his main hopes for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict on a possible victory in the upcoming US election and the return of former President Donald Trump to the White House. Speaking on the Kossuth radio station's morning program, he said that such a development would allow supporters of peace in Ukraine to gain the upper hand.“After November (US elections) there will be an era of peace supporters and Europe should think about the future,” the prime minister argued. He stressed that this was one of the main objectives of Hungary's presidency of the EU Council, and these were the goals of his peace mission, during which he visited Kyiv, Moscow, Beijing, Washington, and Trump's estate in Florida from July 2 to 11.Orbán also reiterated the main conclusions he drew from his trips to Ukraine and Russia, outlined in a letter to European Council President Charles Michel that was published by the Hungarian government on July 18. In his opinion, the parties to the conflict “do not want peace and believe that this war can be won.” At the same time, each side hopes that time is playing tricks on it and it will gain an advantage before peace talks begin.
