Argentine president calls Iran a “terrorist state”

Argentine President Javier Milay called Iran a terrorist state and said his government will seek sentences for Iranian officials whom Buenos Aires believes were involved in the 1994 attack against a Jewish cultural center.“The situation demands a punishment commensurate with the gravity of the crimes committed, taking into account the cover-up of the role played by the terrorist state of Iran, taking into account the gravity of bribing witnesses to cover up crimes against humanity,” he said at a conference marking the 30th anniversary of the attack.Mealey said his government has proposed a bill that would allow in absentia trials in particularly serious cases, including those involving the financing of terrorist activities. “This will make it possible to try officials of the Iranian regime involved in the terrorist attack,” the Argentine president said, acknowledging that the sentence would probably not be carried out.
