Russia is selling its uranium stocks to China

Kazakhstan's state-owned Kazatomprom, the world's largest uranium producer, said Uranium One Group, which is part of Russia's state-owned Rosatom, is pulling out of two uranium mining joint ventures in Kazakhstan Reuters reports.

Uranium One Group has sold 49.979% of the Zarechnoye joint venture (which mines uranium at the Zarechnoye mine in the Turkestan region) to SNURDC Astana Mining Company, which is owned by the China State Nuclear Uranium Resource Development Company.

Reserves at Zarechnoye mine at the beginning of 2024 amounted to approximately 3,500 tons of uranium, and the end of production is planned for 2028.
