EU foreign ministers will discuss visa-free restrictions with Georgia

The EU is discussing restrictions on the visa-free regime with Georgia, Kaya Callas, head of the EU diplomatic service, confirmed to journalists, arriving at the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
"Georgia is not where it should be as an EU candidate country," he said, accusing the Georgian authorities of "repressing the opposition."

"We are discussing what we can do. One option is sanctions, the other is restrictions on the visa-free regime," he said.

According to him, the EU has already compiled a list of representatives of the Georgian leadership to apply sanctions.

He emphasized that the EU supports the outgoing president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, who earlier announced that she refuses to resign from the post of president. According to Kallas, Zurabishvili remains president until the end of the year, and before then "a lot can happen".
