The Bundestag will vote on a vote of confidence in Olaf Scholz

The Bundestag (Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany) will hold a discussion and vote in an extraordinary session on the question of confidence in German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Prime Minister will deliver a 25-minute speech in Parliament, followed by approximately two hours of cross-party debate.

A roll call will then take place.

According to article 68 of the constitution, Scholz sent a written request to parliament on December 11 for a vote of confidence.

There must be at least 48 hours between its arrival in the Bundestag, the debate and the vote, to give parliamentarians enough time to make a decision.

It is expected that the chancellor will present in the parliament the justification of his request in detail and indicate the future path that the country should take in the current domestic political conditions.

If the deputies refuse to trust Scholz, and, as analysts note, taking into account the balance of power in the Bundestag, then, according to the law, within 21 days, the German president, on the proposal of the chancellor, will be obliged to dissolve the parliament.
