Maria Gabrielyan, an Armenian deputy of the Syrian parliament, said this in a conversation with "Armenpress", referring to the situation after the capture of the country's capital Damascus by the armed opposition, the ongoing political developments and the future fate of Syria.

"There is a celebratory atmosphere of victory from the early hours of the morning. shots, chants of joy," said Maria Gabrielyan, describing the current situation.

Touching on the prevailing sentiments among Armenians, the Armenian deputy of the Syrian Parliament noted that everyone is in a state of waiting.

"Armenians, like the locals, follow the developments of the situation," said Maria Gabrielyan.

Answering the question whether the locals are happy to know that Syrian President Bashar Assad has left power, the deputy remarked:

"Yes, they have no choice. yesterday they praised Assad, and today the revolution."

However, the deputy could not provide information about the location and fate of Bashar Assad and his family.

"At the moment, Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Al-Jalali is holding a meeting with the commander of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham armed group, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, in order to hand over power," the Armenian deputy noted, adding that there is still no other clarity.

According to the MP, among the Armenians living in other parts of Syria, there is also a reserved and expectant state. Referring to the political situation in the country, Maria Gabrielyan informed that now the power is being transferred to the interim government.

"The transfer of power continues, with full executive powers to the transitional government," concluded Maria Gabrielyan, the Armenian deputy of the Syrian Parliament.
