The EU court fined Hungary

In Luxembourg, the EU court sentenced Hungary to a fine of 200 million euros, as well as a payment of one million euros per day, for rejecting previous court rulings on violations of pan-European rules for the reception of migrants, according to the press release of the structure. In November 2020 and 2021, the EU court stated in its decisions, that the provisions of some Hungarian laws on the reception of migrants are contrary to European law. After the migration crisis in Europe, the Hungarian authorities have started to implement a strict policy towards migrants and refugees who cross the country's borders. For this, Budapest was severely criticized by UN humanitarian agencies and the European Union. In particular, Hungary was criticized in Brussels primarily for refusing to comply with EU decisions on migration policy. The EU Court emphasized that all member states of the Union must comply with court decisions and eliminate the mentioned violations, otherwise financial sanctions will be applied.
