"Geghard" Foundation: According to tradition, the city of Tbilisi was founded by Vakhtang Gorgasal, king of Virk, in the 5th century. Later, it was the center of the Georgian kingdom and province. In the 8th century, the Arabs conquered the city and established the Emirate of Tbilisi, which already in the 10th century was an independent Muslim state in the territory of Eastern Georgia, with a predominantly Georgian population. In the 12th century, the Georgian king David IV the Builder finally liberated it and made it the capital of the Georgian state again.
Since 1918, Tbilisi has been the capital of the Republic of Georgia. There are many references to the city in Georgian, Byzantine, Armenian, Arab-Muslim and other sources, but there is no document or source in which this Georgian city is mentioned as Azerbaijani.
