Participation in the presidential elections in Romania is more active than 5 years ago

Today there are presidential elections in Romania, which are held every five years. Romanian citizens vote more actively in the presidential elections than 5 years ago, at 18:00, 36.76% of voters participated in the elections. In 2019, as of that time, voter turnout was 33.44 percent.

There is no threshold for voter participation in the country, elections will be recognized as valid with any number of participants.

13 candidates are running for the post of president: former Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircea Geoane, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku, President of the Senate Nikolay Chuke and others.

According to Romanian legislation, the winner of the presidential elections is the candidate who receives more than half of the votes included in the lists. If the votes are less than 50%, then in two weeks there will be a second round of elections, where the winner is declared the winner. Polling stations will close at 11:00 p.m.
