Artashes Sargsyan, president of the Union of Ukrainian Zaporozhye Armenians, and his little son, Aren, are regular visitors to Tsitsernakaberd. They come here, bowing to 1915. In memory of the victims of the Genocide, circulating in the area. Years ago, when Artashes Sargsyan was living in Ukraine, he agreed with his wife that if their third child was a boy, they would move to Yerevan for permanent residence. And so it happened. they moved to their homeland. Every time they came to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial, little Aren started playing with the soil. That was the reason for Artashes to plant a fir tree in this area.
"He was one year old, we decided to move to Armenia. Every day we brought the child here, we decided to plant a tree, I am the head of the community of Zaporozhye, Ukraine, and I have done a lot of work both on the subject of the Genocide and on the protection of Armenians. they gave me a place to plant a tree," he said.
Artashes Sargsyan says that a new idea was born from here: to plant another 5,000 trees in the area adjacent to the memorial complex. At first, Artashes planted some spruces, introduced a drip irrigation system, but because the water flowed from the Artesian reservoir and there were grains of sand, the drip system did not work and many trees simply dried up, but this did not stop him from finding other options to achieve his goal and planting new saplings.
"I call on everyone to come and participate, we must all unite around our state, our statehood," said Artashes Sargsyan.
The start of the greening project of Tsitsernakaberd hill is given. The goal in the future is to cover the hills surrounding the memorial with firs, to create a national park, in the greening of which everyone can take part. Representatives of Armenian unions and individuals from different countries have already joined this important initiative.
