Donald Trump, the leader in the US presidential election, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was his main rival, noted in a telephone conversation the importance of unity in the country. This was stated in a statement by Trump campaign communications director Stephen Chun.
"Earlier today, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris spoke by phone, and she congratulated him on his historic victory. President Trump noted Vice President Harris's strength, professionalism and tenacity during the campaign, and both leaders noted the importance of strengthening unity of the country," Chun said.

The Washington Post, Harris called Trump and congratulated him on winning the presidential election. According to the publication's interlocutor, Harris also discussed with Trump "the importance of a peaceful transfer of power." At 16:00 local time, Harris plans to give a speech admitting defeat in the presidential race.
