EU ambassadors could not reach an agreement on the 20th round of sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, Euractiv reported, citing diplomats. Malta and Greece have expressed concern about the potential impact of restrictions on so-called shadow fleets on their shipping industries, they said.
The portal writes that other questions remain, including those related to lists of specific ships. The ambassadors plan to resume discussions on Friday, and further negotiations are possible over the weekend in order to finalize the package by February 24, Euractiv notes.
According to the agenda of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU, the 20th package of sanctions was discussed by the ambassadors of the 27 EU countries during each meeting during the last two weeks.
As Reuters reported earlier, the EU intends to blacklist 42 tankers and impose sanctions for the first time on the ports of third countries, Indonesia and Georgia, as part of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia for operations with Russian oil.
