Thai Army Command spokesman Major General Vinthai Suwari on Thursday denied Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Mane's accusations against Thailand of occupying Cambodian territory. The general's briefing was broadcast on the Thai PBS TV channel.
In an interview with Reuters in Washington, where the Cambodian prime minister arrived to attend the first meeting of US President Donald Trump's "Peace Council" on Gaza, he said that Thai troops, in violation of a joint Thai-Cambodian ceasefire declaration of December 27, 2025, have occupied a significant area of Cambodia along the border between the two countries, partially fencing it off with shipping containers and with barricades made of barbed wire.
Hun Manet also stated that "80,000 Cambodian displaced persons cannot return home" due to the Thai occupation of these areas.
"Cambodia knows that this territory belongs to Thailand. In the past, Thailand provided asylum here to Cambodian refugees fleeing the conflict. However, after the war (the Cambodian civil war that ended more than 30 years ago, ed.), these Cambodian civilians and soldiers did not return to their country.
Instead, they continued to expand their communities, encroaching on Thailand's sovereignty," General Suvari said.
